What is GPS?
Global Positioning Satellite
How large in dimensions is the UIS?
6 inches wide x 9.5 inches long x 2 ¾ inches deep
How does the UIS stay in my vehicle? Suction cups? Sit on my dashboard? Installed?
UIS in vehicle module is installed in the vehicle under any seat, front or rear. In geographic locations where temperatures do not reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit it can be installed in the trunk. The screen will be installed in the dashboard.
How do I get updates on my UIS for new roads or subdivisions etc.?
A consumer receives 24 months of updates free. There are two methods by which you may update your UIS:
1. By visiting the facility where your UIS was first installed, or
2. Via specific Wi-Fi "hot spots" in your city. There are no Compact Disks or DVDs.
UIS owners will simply go to an authorized site and the UIS systems will automatically pick up the latest map data and/or other updates to the system. And as more Agreements with "hot spot" providers (example: Gas stations) are reached, ease of access to Automatic Updates by UIS users "on the go" will exponentially increase. No other product offers this kind of service.
Who is going to let me know when updates are ready and available?
As the UIS System is in range of a "hot-spot," a window shall open on the screen informing the user that UIS Updates are being downloaded. In addition, each user will also be contacted via email regarding scheduled updates.
***How much will these updates cost me?
A consumer receives the first 24 months of updates free. After which updates will cost approximately $185 for the next 24 month period.
***Note: This fee cost does not only cover the cost of updates, but also live 24x7 support services.
Is that more or less than competitors?
Where the competition often “nickels and dimes” customers per regional update (often times charging individual costs for updates of different areas and regions of North America, separately), UIS users receive updates for all of continental U.S. as well as Canada for free during the first 24 months, and then for approximately $185.00 for the next 24 months. For UIS users in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) and Europe, update costs are estimated at the same price as listed above for the 24 month period after the initial free 24 month period of updates has expired. No hidden costs.
Many competitors charge annual fees or “pay as you go” fees for downloadable updates in the areas of navigable data and points of interest. These map updates which are downloadable from company websites to their users typically range in cost from $50.00 to $100.00 per regional update with separate costs for countries in Europe, and regional zones within North America (United States and Canada).
Other competitors make it mandatory for their customers to purchase costly update DVD in order to keep their product current with information.
All one has to do is visit the websites of navigation equipment manufacturers such as Tom-Tom, Magellan, and Garmin to realize the extra costs ($$$) of owning one of the cheaper and less detailed aftermarket products in the market today. Yet, there is UIS which we believe will make all the difference.
What will I see on the screen that I won't see on any competitor’s unit?
You will be able to monitor the exact terrain you are traveling into and the surrounding areas. You will be able to identify the very building, shopping center, house or landmark you are parked near or passing by.
What will I experience with the UIS unit that I won't typically experience on any competitor's unit?
1. We use satellite and/or Aerial Imagery as our "map" display and back it up with a navigation engine that provides uncanny accuracy. For example, we show the vehicle at a lane level while driving down the street, not your position within 30 feet of your actual location, as with the majority of our competition. No other system in the market today does this.
2. The vehicle icon stays with you all of the time so as you look out the window there is less than 2 second lag (delay) while moving. For example, when you pass under an overpass on an Interstate you will see the same overpass on the display within a count of “1”…“2”. Other systems are not designed or able to show you this when driving at an appreciable speed.
3. The vehicle is always in the center of the screen and the display moves with you rather than the other way around. Our system is always “top” up meaning the top of the unit is the direction of travel. Other systems move the vehicle and sometimes your traveled track is moving opposite to the way you are moving, which we believe is at the very least, confusing and at times frustrating to the consumer.
4. The image display shows all information around the vehicle even when you go off road. Other systems have simple colored maps/graphics that are void of physical/terrain detail.
5. UIS keeps all of its data on board and thereby eliminates the need for a DVD to provide the map data. This differs greatly from the requirement for live I-net connection or Hot-Spots where or when available. We’ve have conducted extensive testing of DVD operated navigation units and in most cases, the units overheat with prolonged use and tend to start skipping, etc. UIS automatically loads the data you need into a stable memory that eliminates the chance of failure even under the roughest conditions. No CD or DVD to change, ever!
6. UIS has built in an auto-power/temperature device to control the power received from the vehicle, it senses the unit running temperature and controls the computer shutdown procedure. This is critical for the system but the user will not even know this is happening. Except when they restart the car and everything starts up right where they left off. (Time lapse to complete unit shutdown from time ignition is turned off is 6minutes in most regions)
7. UIS provides video navigation instructions as well as text voice and a graphical display. Others systems typically have one of these, but rarely both.
8. UIS combines information & entertainment features (infotainment) for more than simple navigation. We have incorporated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in as well as a 3G UMTS/CDMA/WCDMA/GPRS/GSM data card (all included with purchase of UIS system) for connecting the device to the Internet and/or telephone system. UIS has the potential to be an office in the car by enabling the user to connect to his/her email, internet, and much more. Obviously this can’t be done while driving, but with our card users can connect to the internet anywhere signal is available.
9. UIS updates will be provided by dealers through a WI-Fi hookup. UIS owners will simply go to an authorized site and they will automatically pick up the latest map data or other updates to the system. No one else offers this kind of service.
10. UIS offers an SOS service that connects the driver/vehicle to our control center in case of an emergency. Subject to approval of local emergency service providers, we will be able to connect directly thereby greatly increasing the potentiality of saving lives. Since UISC does not believe that any price-tag can be put on saving the lives of you, your passengers, or your loved ones, this service will always be free of charge for the life of your UIS system.
11. In addition to the communications connection, UIS offers a video chat capability that allows the person in the vehicle to send live video images to either our control center or to another UIS user. The system can also send live video images to a dispatcher for a real time view of what the driver sees. Other navigation systems don’t even come close on this one.
12. UIS records all trips (as Video files) for later playback. This feature is not available with many systems because there is no writing capability, they are typically read only, however with other systems in the market today you are offered to save your “favorite” trips as POI’s (Points Of Interest).
13. UIS has a built in gyro so that allows the System to know when the vehicle is changing direction or in some emergency such as a rollover etc. We also use the gyro to aid the navigation engine in its calculations.
14. UIS has the capacity to connect to vehicle inputs for transmitting other performance data that may be useful to fleet managers, etc. As a standard connection it provides reverse, brake, speed and park/drive of the vehicle. These features provide the basic data monitoring performance. There are systems that do this and more but not combined with all the other features we have and may not be able to be easily customized to each customer’s personal needs.
15. UIS is currently compatible with aftermarket audio–video systems. We add to their capabilities and don’t require the user to buy a dedicated system. If for some reason they don’t want to use the UIS then they simply switch to normal operations or the A/V unit. Most other systems are single purpose. This means that you can play CDs and DVDs from the same display unit that UIS is displayed on.
What do I hear that I won’t hear on competitor's unit?
UIS uses a live recorded guidance navigator. You see the face of the Navigator when he/she is speaking to you. You also have the option of only having the audio of the Navigator.
What can I do that I can't do on competitor's unit?
1. Fax, email and surf the internet
2. 3G UIS Video call and conferencing. This is solely between UIS users at this point however we project that by the end of 2009 it will be from your UIS to anyone.
3.
7 day a week, 24 hour a day assistance center – free for the first 24 months
4. Real time comprehensive zoom in zoom out of Aerial photos and/or Satellite images of the area you are traveling in.
5.
Real time positioning of your vehicle within 15 centimeters of the actual position – not the 10 to 15 meters or more of competitors.
6. UIS SOS unique features are provided at no cost to the consumer other than the phone service provider for the call.
7.
In the case of an emergency, the exact location of the vehicle will be transmitted in Video mode, and the in-cabin camera (Optional Equipment) will be activated by the UIS SOS for the emergency assistance personnel to communicate with the driver/passengers. The Photo image of the exact position of the vehicle will be transmitted to the monitoring emergency authority to aid them in locating the vehicle ASAP.
8.
3G UMTS/CDMA/WCDMA/GPRS/GSM communications
Does UIS operate via Antenna/Receiver or Satellite or what?
UIS uses a 4 Hz satellite GPS receiver for taking and confirming the GPS position of the vehicle, when required by the UIS Navi Engine. However, UIS is free running due to its connection to vehicle vital statistics information systems and through its own on board Gyro and guidance system.
What if system fails or breaks? Is there a place to take it? Is there a place to call?
Should you experience a No Map Display situation, you can contact the 24 hour UIS service center from your Tools Menu on the screen. Trained personnel will assist you in checking your unit and try to fix it remotely. If such a solution fails, the dealer will replace UIS with a new unit until yours is serviced at no charge unless the unit is found to be non-functioning due to user tampering.
What is the warranty?
UIS provides the consumer a 24 month warranty on the hardware, software and updates. A nominal amount (7-10% of unit cost) will be charged to the consumer to continue the same warranties for each year thereafter.
